- The bodhisattva Manjushri , the oldest and most important of Mahāyāna literature, Nepal late 19th / early 20th century.
- He is depicted brandishing a flaming sword in his right hand, indicating the realization of transcendent wisdom that eliminates ignorance and duality. His right hand is shown in vitarka mudra, the gesture of argumentation.
- Provenance: Estate of collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau.
