  • Hindu ritual box, depicting a bull (metal or bronze) surrounded by four rats.
    Indonesia, 19th century, possibly Bali.
  • Dedicated to Shiva and Ganesh, the bull (Nandi) is the vehicle of the former, while the rats are that of the latter.
  • Rats wear two colors: yellow symbolizes knowledge and learning (mental development, meditation) as well as happiness, peace and stability.
    It is also the color of Ganesh.
    In Hinduism, red represents honor, love and prosperity.
